Cosplay Masquerade

We are pleased to announce the second year of the Belfast's Cosplay Masquerade held at Q-Con XV.

What is Cosplay?

Cosplay is a form of Costume Play where a person makes or wears a costume based on Anime, Manga or Games characters. You do not have to act 'in character', however it is something that some people find adds to their enjoyment of cosplaying. Cosplay often takes place in conventions in the form of masquerades and catwalks, both competitive and uncompetitive. Cosplay.com shows some good examples of cosplayers across the world.

Why should I Cosplay?

Mainly for fun, however it also gives you a chance to show off your costume and sewing skills. You can win prizes and awards, and show your appreciation and dedication to a character/show/genre.

What is the Masquerade?

The masquerade at Q-Con XV is basically a catwalk on stage. You can strut your stuff on stage as the character, showing off your cosplay. This masquerade is competitive, which means there will be prizes awarded for the best cosplays. The masquerade will be directed by Tsukiko-chan (Holly Grimes) cosplaying as Guchuko from the anime 'Potemayo' and presented by Laura Mooney. Cosplayers will be given a short amount of time on stage to act out their character if they wish, or they can just show off their costume and leave the stage if they prefer.

What do I do at the Masquerade?

The rules and information on what to do to take part in the masquerade will be on the Registration form for the masquerade and in the conbook. Detailed information regarding what to do during the masquerade will be given by Tsukiko-chan before the masquerade after the judging at 2pm on Sunday, this is compulsory for all entries.

Where do I sign up?

Registration for Q-Con's second Cosplay Masquerade can be carried out by filling out the Cosplay sign-up forms available during the convention. You can get these from the Snack Bar (second floor games hall) registration desk, from the Anime rooms or from Holly Grimes/ Tsukiko-chan. You may also download and fill out the form. The completed forms can be handed into any of the above mentioned places.

Please note that only fully registered and paid Q-Con attendees can register for the Cosplay Masquerade.

Cosplayers are strongly urged to bring a printed picture or similar showing their character for comparison and judging.

Please read the Masquerade Rules before signing up, which will be available with the sign-up forms. If you have any questions, please contact us via email at info@q-con.org.uk.
