Board Games are back for Q-Con 2026 with more tournaments, casual, competitive and classic.
Board and social gaming has been an integral part of Q-Con since the beginning, and once again we are very happy to return to our home of the Main Site Tower; whilst expanding into other areas to bring you the best tabletop experience.
Want some chill casual play, come down and check out our selection as seen below in the Main Site Tower across the weekend.
Have a competitive edge for some fun prizes, check out what's on in the Peter Froggatt Centre.
And if it's deduction that you're mad about, the Senate Room will have you covered including the return of Blood On the Clocktower.

Thanks to QUB Dragonslayers' expansive list of board games, we will have a vast number of games available for playing across the weekend.
All of these games will be available throughout the weekend to borrow and play in the Main Site Tower of the event.

About Board Games Tournaments
We at Q-Con are very happy to see the return to board gaming tournaments, both casual and competitive around the event.
Entry to all of these events are free so if you'd like to spend a few hours in tabletop either forgetting about your worries and make some new friends over a game of Takenoko; or you'd really like to flex your neurons in daring competition - we've got you covered.

Come along and meet new people, as you team up to play games like Codenames, Captain Sonar, Decrypto, Wavelength, and many more as you work together to bond, grow ideas and forge new long lasting friendships over a few games as a team.Don't have a friend - don't worry. Ask our helpful generalists and they will get your name out down and assigned with another player who is in the same boat in this drop in/drop out event.

Hive is a bug-themed tabletop abstract strategy game, designed by John Yianni.
The object of Hive is to capture the opponent's queen bee by having it completely surrounded by other pieces.
Thanks to the popularity of this easy to learn and play 1v1 board games, it is a returning, in our 16-person swiss style tournament format from last year.

Speed boardgaming - Casual

You've got 20 minutes, make them count...
Speed Boardgaming is our tabletop based speed friending event designed to take a group of random attendees, give you all a board game and allow you to have fun over the next 20 minutes, playing and learning.
After 20 minutes, we rotate the games and the players to allow you to interact with a whole host of new faces and make new lasting friendships over some dice and a few victory points.
Don't have a lot of time? Well don't worry as our event is drop in and drop out so take as long as you want each round and feel free to go and/or come back at any time throughout.
It's fast and furious across this group of mini games designed in a casual gaming format to help you get to know people better.

Ca$h 'N' Guns - Competitive

Welcome to the greatest heist of the century. Ca$h 'N' Guns is a board game created by Ludovic Maublanc.
This heist based money gathering game sees players undertake the roles of bank robbers attempting to steal the world's greatest treasures.
Prevent others from gaining loot by shooting them using special bullet cards, during the draw phase, and gain loot yourself (providing you survive wound free of course).
A 8 person free for all events ran across two tables, welcome to this fast and furious slinging event.
This 16 person tournament will be ran swiss style across 4 rounds with the Grand Prix points system.

Let the best strategist win in this event where you will not know what or who you are playing until the event starts. This swiss style event will run across 4 rounds in groups of 4 until a true winner of all things unknown is determined.

Exploding Kittens - Competitive

There's bombs around every corner and it's up to you to defuse and avoid them at all costs.
Exploding Kittens is a turn based card game designed by Matthew Inman, Elan Lee and Shane Small, and first published in 2015.
Each turn players will attempt to play cards before drawing at the end of their turn. But watch out for drawing the destructive exploding kitten card. Doing so will eliminate you from the game until the last cat is standing.

CATAN: Speed Format - Competitive

CATAN is a multiplayer board game designed by Klaus Teuber.
This 4 player game focused on the settlement creation of the island of CATAN, by gathering resources, building roads and cities, and gaining victory points.
Back by popular demand, we will be running a speed CATAN tournament with 16 players across 4 tables at Q-Con 2026!
In this version, players race to 7 points instead of the usual 10 in four scoring games.
For our four winners, they will each play one more game against each other to determine our grand prize winner, with 2nd and 3rd then being decided by who has the most points at the end of the game.

Sushi Go Party - Competitive

Wrap your Onigiri and build your points off of our favourite sushi menu.
Sushi Go! is a board game designed by Phil Walker-Harding and published by Gamewright Games in 2013.
In this unique game, players play concurrently a card before passing their hand to the left. Turns continue until all cards are played and points are totalled based on what sushi you have built.
Come join us in this swiss style 16 player tournament where we are playing with Grand Prix points gaining per round.

With a return to lots of our mystery classics including a few new faces, we are stocked to the brim with personal engineered events.
Whether it's Blood On The Clocktower, Ultimate Werewolf or Two Rooms in a Boom, we have lots of event space to check out across the weekend in the Senate Room of the Lanyon Building on both Saturday and Sunday
